Guidelines
Ashley Kathleen follows the same guidelines with every design:
- Consistent headers. It is important that your users know that they are on your website from the first click to the last. When desiging, consistent headers inform your users that they remain on your website and haven't been sent elsewhere.
- Consistent navigation. Navigation is the hub of your website and controls the flow of your users' experience. Once your user is familiar with the structure of your navigation they can easily find additional pages by following their instincts. For this reason, it is important that the navigation bar stay in the same location, have the same information in the same order on every page of your site.
- Text-based navigation. Text-based navigation means that all of your links in your navigation bar are driven by text rather than images. Not only do search engines prefer text-based navigation (which means it will help you rank higher) but it makes a web administrators job a lot easier when they need to add or modify the links.
- Limited graphics. The fewer graphical elements required to give your site it's "look and feel" the faster the page will load. When designing Ashley Kathleen tries to limit the amount and size of the graphical elements by using solid colors, repeating backgrounds, and items that can be recreated using either HTML, DHTML or javascript.
